Qualifications
Following are the basic qualifications for Fire / Emergency Medical Services (EMS) positions:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have a Firefighter certification
- Must have a current State of Oklahoma Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic License
- Must have a current Drivers License
Education
EMT-Basic – This is a 240 hour course with graduates eligible for National Registry and State Licensure testing. This course is offered through the Quapaw Tribe Fire/EMS Training Department. The course is available annually beginning in September. The course is offered to Quapaw Tribal Members at no cost.
EMT-Paramedic- This is a 33 college credit hour course available through local Colleges/Universities with Graduates eligible for National Registry and State Licensure testing. For more information contact your local College/University for course certification requirements.
Hiring Process
All applicants must meet the Quapaw Tribe Fire/EMS standards for hiring eligibility. All elements of the selection process have been documented as job-related and nondiscriminatory. Hiring requirements include successfully passing the following steps:
- Written Competency
- Physical Agility Test
- Oral Interview Board
- Background Investigation
- Drug Screening
Orientation
All Quapaw Tribe Fire/EMS employees participate in an extensive orientation process to acquaint them with policies, equipment and personnel. On successful completion of orientation, personnel are assigned to a station and a shift. The probationary period for new employees is 6 months.
